Tuesday’s Results (home team in CAPS)

BROOKLYN NETS 104, Utah Jazz 88

Thanks, We Needed It – The Nets regained some of their confidence in routing the Jazz in Brooklyn, behind Brook Lopez and his 27 points, seven rebounds, two steals and a block. No starter played more than 25 minutes and the Nets were in cruise control by the third quarter. Gordon Hayward led the Jazz with 22 points, five rebounds and four assists.

DALLAS MAVERICKS 123, Los Angeles Lakers 104

LOLakersMonta Ellis dropped 30 points with nine assists against the hapless Lakers, who got a combined 32 points from all FIVE of their starters. DeJuan Blair had a nice game off the bench, with 10 points, eight rebounds, four assists, five steals and a block. This game was never close and the Lakers are in full-fledged panic mode. Nick Young led them with 21 points and three steals.

San Antonio Spurs 102, DENVER NUGGETS 94

Excellent Execution – The Spurs are masters of execution on the basketball court. Tim Duncan put up 17 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and four blocks to get the best of the Nuggets. Tony Parker added 24 points, six assists, two steals and a rare block as the Spurs outscored the Nuggets by 14 in the fourth quarter. Isn’t that what the Nuggets are supposed to do to opponents?

Indiana Pacers 99, DETROIT PISTONS 91

Perfect Pacers – If you haven’t already noticed, Paul George is awesome and will be in the MVP race this year. He scored 31 points with 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals to keep the Pacers undefeated. Roy Hibbert added 10 rebounds and seven blocks to the cause. Andre Drummond got just five shots in the travesty of the night. Brandon Jennings scored 17 on 6-0f-20 from the floor. Get used to that.

Phoenix Suns 104, NEW ORLEANS PELICANS 98

Dream Sequence – The Suns weren’t supposed to be good. They’re tanking, remember? Someone forgot to tell the players, as Eric Bledsoe continues to amaze. He put up 25 points, four rebounds, five assists and three steals to lead the Suns. Gerald Green added six 3-pointers and the Suns held off a late run by the Pelicans. Anthony Davis scored 17 with 11 rebounds and five blocks in the loss.

Charlotte Bobcats 102, NEW YORK KNICKS 97

Amar’e Is Not AmoreAmar’e Stoudemire returned just in time to get booed and to watch an embarrassing disaster at Madison Square Garden. Kemba Walker led the Bobcats with 25 points, five rebounds, six assists and a steal. The Bobcats secured 16 offensive rebounds as the Knicks lost Tyson Chandler early to a possible knee sprain. Carmelo Anthony scored 32 on just 10-of-28 from the field.

Houston Rockets 116, PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS 101

Modas Operandi – The Rockets plan is beautiful when it works like it did at the Moda Center. James Harden and Dwight Howard combined for 62 points, 20 rebounds, five assists and three blocks as the Rockets ran away from the Blazers. They shot 54.7 percent as a team and were never seriously challenged. Damian Lillard scored 22 for the Blazers, but they had no answers on the defensive end.

Atlanta Hawks 105, SACRAMENTO KINGS 100

Al Defeats BoogieAl Horford and Paul Millsap are going to be a formidable 1-2 punch in the paint if they keep this up. They combined for 52 points, 21 rebounds, five assists, seven steals and three blocks against the Kings. Jeff Teague added 18 and 10 assists for the Hawks, who led by 17 going to the fourth quarter. Isaiah Thomas led the Kings with 26 points, while DeMarcus Cousins disappointed, with 11 points and six rebounds.

Miami Heat 104, TORONTO RAPTORS 95

Bosh Baby, Bron Crazy – Without Chris Bosh (wife gave birth), LeBron James put on a show in the Heat win, with 35 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and a block. This was James’ 500th consecutive game in double figures, which is roughly three-plus seasons short of Michael Jordan at this point. Dwyane Wade chipped in with 20, six rebounds, five assists and two steals. The Raps were led by DeMar DeRozan and his 21 points.
