Sacramento Kings: Why Monta Ellis Isn’t The Kind Of Player The Kings Need

Monta Ellis is, undoubtedly, one of the top offensive powers in the NBA. He loves to shoot and is one of the league leaders in both scoring (No. 11; 19.2 ppg) and assists (No. 21; 6.0 apg). Unfortunately, for any team looking for a scorer, you need to fork over more than $11 million a year for a one-dimensional player and a potential problem in the locker room. In an interview with a Milwaukee television station in December, the outspoken Milwaukee Bucks guard declared that he was only inferior to Dwyane Wade as it pertained to the total win...

Sacramento Kings: Blueprint For Turning Around The Franchise

The Sacramento Kings have been in disarray for a number of years. Gone are the glory days of the late 1990s-early 2000s, when Chris Webber led the Kings deep into the playoffs on multiple occasions. Nowadays, the Kings are not even guaranteed to be playing in Sac-town come next season–let alone making the postseason. The franchise faces the threat of relocation from a Seattle-based group–something that no set of fans deserves to go through. However, for the purposes of this article, we’ll assume that the Kings will be...

Sacramento Kings: Is Keith Smart the Best Coach for This Team?

Last week, I wrote a story about the first important move for the Sacramento Kings over the offseason. The team’s ownership details needed to be sorted, which looks like it is happening, as the first order of business. The next most important move was the, in my opinion, the new owners needed to make a decision about coach Keith Smart. One of the only things keeping Smart on the payroll at the moment is the fact that the final determination as to the ownership of the franchise has yet to be finalized. According to the Sacramento Bee, the NBA...

Sacramento Kings: Underdog Sacramento Kings Likely to Stay Put

According to the New York Times, a unanimous vote by the NBA Relocation Committee has shot down a proposal to move the underdog Sacramento Kings to Seattle.  The vote, though not binding, now moves forward as a recommendation to the NBA Board of Governors. I have been covering this drama for @hoopshabit over the course of the last month and it was my opinion, that once the NBA delayed the vote on the sale and relocation of the team, it was a signal that the tide had turned to the underdog Sacramento investment group to keep the team in...

Sacramento Kings: Is DeMarcus Cousins Worth all the Headaches?

The Sacramento Kings, as I have reported on numerous times in recent weeks, are at a crossroads in their franchise history. With a potential sale and a potential change of scenery on the horizon, it is the perfect time for the owners, whomever they may end up being, to completely revamp their product from the top of the organization down to the equipment manager. Of the top five questions that remain to be answered, a daunting query at that, is to decide whether talented big man DeMarcus Cousins is worth all of the headaches that he has given...

Sacramento Kings: Offseason To-Do List

To say that times are tumultuous in Sacramento would be like saying the Indianapolis 500 is a soap box derby. With no idea who is going to own the team, no idea in what city the team will play, no clear direction and coming off a season where the team finished the season with a 1-7 record in April, the Kings are quickly approaching the biggest fork in the road of their history. There needs to be some massive changes in order to right this ship before the beginning of the 2013-14 season. A look at some of the biggest moves that need to happen...

NBA: Delayed Vote on Sacramento Kings Sale Could Benefit City of Sacramento

On Wednesday, April 17, NBA Commissioner David Stern indicated in an impromptu press conference that there is not likely to be a vote of the NBA Board of Governors on neither the sale of the Sacramento Kings franchise nor the relocation of the team to Seattle, according to the Seattle Times. The press conference, which happened outside of NBA headquarters in New York, commenced after a four-hour meeting of the joint Relocation and Finance Committees. When pressed for a timeline, the commissioner said that, “… possibly the first week of May…...

NBA: Sacramento and Seattle to Battle for NBA Franchise This Week

As time is winding down on the NBA Board of Governors meeting, to take place April 18-19, the push by the Seattle investment group headed by billionaire Chris Hansen to move the Sacramento Kings to Seattle will be potentially defined. One thing is certain and that is one city will be elated and one is going to be knocked to their knees. Sacramento is not going down without a fight as former NBA All-Star and current Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson has often tweeted, “Sacramento is playing to win…”. At stake for Seattle is the return of the NBA...

NBA: One Player Each Team Can’t Do Without

The phrase “franchise player” gets thrown around a lot. Teams usually have a player that encapsulates what the franchise is about. They help sell tickets, bring in new fans and most importantly — win games. Let’s look at one player each team in the NBA couldn’t manage without. Atlanta Hawks: Al Horford Al Horford is a very underrated player. A very skilled big man, Horford doesn’t get the attention of frontcourt mate Josh Smith — perhaps due to J-Smoove’s dunks — but he is definitely more of an elite performer....

NBA: Power Ranking The 10 Best Centers In The NBA

The center as a position is one that has undergone a lot of change in recent years. The position is thought to be declining, with more teams going ”small ball” and sometimes not even playing a center. This was perhaps most evident when the NBA itself removed the position of center from the All-Star ballot; changing it to simply”‘frontcourt.” Here we’ll have a look at the 10 best centers in the NBA. 10. DeMarcus Cousins, Sacramento Kings If this list was based on talent alone, DeMarcus Cousins would be much higher than...
