Atlanta Hawks: Grading Each Player’s Performance In 2012-13

Going into the season, the big question surrounding the Atlanta Hawks was how they would perform without Joe Johnson. As it turned out, the situation wasn’t much different. They were still a solid-but-unspectacular team that wrapped up a playoff spot and then proceeded to go down in round 1, this time at the hands of the Indiana Pacers. But while the Hawks were somewhat underwhelming, they had several individual players who were solid contributors, as we’ll find out now as we look at the individual performance of each player on...

Atlanta Hawks: Could ATL Reunite Stan Van Gundy, Dwight Howard?

Yahoo Sports reported Friday night that the Atlanta Hawks are going after Stan Van Gundy for their head coaching position. Sources told Yahoo that Van Gundy is the top choice of general manager Danny Ferry to replace Larry Drew, who has coached the Hawks for three seasons. Drew’s contract is set to expire on June 30 and Atlanta appears to want a change of direction after Drew went 128-102 after replacing Mike Woodson after the 2009-10 season. The Hawks won just one playoff series under Drew and have been bounced in the first round each of the...

The 6’9″ forward is from nearby College Park, Ga., and has played his entire career with the Hawks since being drafted 17th overall in 2004. But this moment will also be pivotal for the franchise and has been building since Danny Ferry was hired as general manager in June 2012. Ferry began trimming payroll last summer when...

NBA Playoffs 2013: Pacers vs. Hawks Recap

The series America loved to hate ended on Friday, May 3, when the Indiana Pacers defeated the Atlanta Hawks at Phillips Arena in the ATL, 81-73. When asked on ESPN’s “Pardon the Interruption” on Friday afternoon if the Pacers-Hawks series would end in Game 6, co-host Tony Kornheiser’s response was, “If there is a God.” Yeah, it was that kind of a series, a series few people seemed to care about and even fewer watched. In every playoffs, the first round includes the so-called “NBA TV series,” the one that gets shuffled off to a network that...

NBA Playoffs 2013: Atlanta Hawks vs Indiana Pacers Preview

The Atlanta Hawks and Indiana Pacers split their season series, but many pundits around the league have the Pacers easily beating the Hawks. Let’s take a look: Point Guard – George Hill (14.2 PPG, 4.7 APG) vs. Jeff Teague (14.6 PPG, 7.2 APG) This isn’t the most intriguing point-guard matchup that you’re going to find. Neither Hill or Teague is a star. Their respective stat lines are solid, but nothing out of the ordinary. But they are necessary to their respective teams. The Pacers average nearly 100 points per 100 possessions more when...

NBA Playoffs 2013: Atlanta Hawks Playoff Profile

The Atlanta Hawks have quietly gone about securing their fifth consecutive playoff berth — this time doing so without former All-Star shooting guard Joe Johnson. They are one of the least fancied teams in the Eastern Conference and have never won an NBA championship since moving to Atlanta in 1968. It’s hard to see this changing in 2013. Current record: 44-36 Division position: 2nd in Southeast Eastern Conference seeding: Fifth (TBD) Team Leaders: It could be argued that Jeff Teague is the leader of the team. Teague orchestrates the...
