Detroit Pistons: J.B. Bickerstaff Emerges as Coaching Candidate

The Detroit Free Press reported Wednesday, May 8, that the Detroit Pistons were interviewing a fourth candidate for their vacant head coaching position, Houston Rockets assistant coach J.B. Bickerstaff. Bickerstaff is the first candidate to interview since the Pistons retained Phil Jackson as a consultant during the search process. Jackson began his duties on Tuesday. Bickerstaff is the fourth candidate to interview, joining former Seattle SuperSonics and Portland Trail Blazers coach Nate McMillan, San Antonio Spurs assistant Mike Budenholzer...

Detroit Pistons: Phil Jackson To Consult In Coaching Search

The Detroit Pistons may be trying to prove that there is such thing as a free lunch. On May 2, team owner Tom Gores announced that Phil Jackson will serve as an unpaid consultant in the search for a new head coach. The position became vacant when Lawrence Frank was fired last month following a two-year stint and with one season still remaining on his contract at a reported $4 million. So the coaching carousel continues to spin in Detroit as the franchise prepares to hire its seventh sideline boss since Joe Dumars was named team president in...

Detroit Pistons: 5 Top Candidates to Replace Lawrence Frank

The Detroit Pistons are looking for a new coach. That’s nothing new—since Chuck Daly retired after the 1991-92 season, Flip Saunders is the only one of the 11 coaches (that’s right, 11 coaches in 21 years) to last even three seasons on the job. Lawrence Frank is the latest casualty, fired on April 18—the day after the regular season ended—after posting a 54-94 record in his two seasons in the lead chair. Frank was the first major hire by owner Tom Gores, who took control of the team in June 2011, but for president of basketball operations Joe...

Andre Drummond: Is He the Best Big Man of the 2012-13 Rookie Crop?

Andre Drummond: Is He the Best Big Man of the 2012-13 Rookie Crop?

Andre Drummond has definitely exceeded expectations this year for the Detroit Pistons. And, he has been one of the best, if not the best, rookies this year. Despite receiving limited playing time and playing for a poor team, Drummond has managed to dominate (at times) and make an impact despite averaging about 20 minutes per game and missing time due to a back injury. The Pistons have dominated on the boards with Drummond and fellow big man Greg Monroe and while the two haven’t been paired up down low too often, they have given the...

Detroit Pistons: Why Detroit Needs to Keep Jose Calderon

The Detroit Pistons are finishing up another disappointing season this week as they only have one game left. As they look forward to the offseason, they should have two goals in mind. The first will be the draft. They will have a high draft pick and will hopefully be able to get an instant-impact player. The other goal needs to be the re-signing of Jose Calderon. With such a young team, the veteran leadership that he provides is invaluable to them. Most of the roster that will be returning next season will be younger than 27 years old....

NBA: Ranking the 10 Worst Shooting Guards in the NBA

Today teams in the NBA are constructed carefully and tactfully. Ranking the best shooting guards in the league is no easy task. Some of these players are not full-time starters and are filling in due to injuries. Other teams have great point guards and do not need a backcourt partner next to them that is better than average. Without further ado, these are the 1o worst starting shooting guards in the NBA today. 10. Rodney Stuckey, Detroit Pistons On Wednesday, April 10, the Pistons were without Jose Calderon. They made do and actually won the...

Detroit Pistons: Grading Each Players’ Performance in 2012-13

The Detroit Pistons are suffering through another tough season.  It was not that long ago that they were regularly in the Eastern Conference Finals and battling for championships.  Their current play makes that a far too distant memory though. Poor personnel decisions and bad play have them near the bottom of the league.  As their season is mercifully coming to an end, it is time to take a look at the grades for the team. Coach: Lawrence Frank:  D+ Frank has been put into a no-win situation and is now facing questions about his future.  He...

Detroit Pistons: Can They Become Contenders In the Near Future?

Posted by on Apr 5, 2013 in Detroit Pistons, NBA | 0 comments

The 2012-13 season hasn’t been too kind to the Detroit Pistons. Detroit stands at 25-51 and has no hope of making the playoffs, even though the Pistons have performed well at times. Detroit has some talented young players, but it hasn’t come together this year in Detroit. However, there is hope for the future. Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe have had nice seasons for Detroit, Brandon Knight has been a solid guard and the team has five players scoring in double figures (and six players with at least nine points). The Pistons haven’t been...

Detroit Pistons: 5 Free Agents They Must Pursue For 2013-14

The Detroit Pistons have not had a good season.  They were showing some signs of at least being somewhat competitive when they started to give rookie Andre Drummond more playing time.  Once he went down with a back injury, the team has plummeted. They only won one game during the month of March. Their win on April 1 was only their third since Feb, 27.  Only four teams in the league have fewer wins on the season than the Pistons.  All of this means that there will be no playoffs for the team this season; instead they need to look ahead to next...

2012 NBA Draft: Who Has Been the Most Surprising Player So Far?

Damian Lillard has been extremely impressive for the Portland Trail Blazers. Photo Credit: Chrishmt0424 (Flickr.com) Andre Drummond was thought of as a high-risk draft pick when he was selected with the ninth overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. Damian Lillard was doubted throughout his high school and college career. However, Drummond has surpassed expectations and proven to be an extremely efficient player for the Detroit Pistons, while Lillard has carried the Portland Trail Blazers to some success. Drummond has averaged 7.5 points per...
