Despite having the best record in the Eastern Conference this season, the Detroit Pistons struggled in the postseason and were eventually bounced in the second round.
As a result, the Pistons are likely looking to add more shooting and playmaking after their offense ran into problems in the playoffs. That makes a potential trade first proposed by Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report with the Miami Heat enticing.
While the Heat are hoping to land superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo this summer, were they to strike out, they may change course. That could mean they are open to trading all-star Tyler Herro, and the Pistons should be interested.
Proposed Miami Heat trade sends Tyler Herro to the Pistons
The hypothetical trade would see the Pistons send Isaiah Stewart, Caris LeVert, a 2027 Detroit first, and a 2027 second-rounder via Milwaukee to Miami for Herro.
The move would give him and the Pistons another ball-handler and 20-point-per-game scorer. It wouldn't even cost them all that much, relatively speaking. Losing LeVert isn't much of a loss.
Stewart has been a Piston for his entire six-year career, but perhaps it's time to move on from him. As for a first-and a second-rounder, that is a reasonable cost for addressing a key flaw.
Tyler Herro would be a perfect trade target for the Pistons
Hero is a polarizing player to be sure, but he's a career 38.2% 3-point shooter on 7.1 attempts per game. He has also averaged at least 20 points per game for five straight years. That type of offensive production is just what Detorit needs.
Remember, the Pistons ranked second-to-last in 3-point attempts per game and 16th in 3-point percentage. Adding Herro could help them solve that major flaw.
For the Heat, were they to strike out on landing Giannis, they could pivot by trading Herro and try to retool around Bam Adebayo. They have the 13th pick in this year's draft and could add a first via the Pistons as well as cap flexibility with LeVert set to bean expiring contract.
If the Heat are willing to retool their roster and the Pistons part ways with Steward, Levert, a first, and a second, then this trade might make sense for both teams.
