Chicago Bulls NBA free agency grades: Lonzo Ball sign-and-trade
The Chicago Bulls opened up NBA free agency by acquiring Lonzo Ball.
Ball landed on the team in a sign-and-trade that netted him a new contract for four years worth $85 million. Ball brings a lot to the Bulls and touches on many of their weaknesses.
He is an elite ball handler and playmaker on the offensive end. Ball will take on the responsibilities of floor general and he will likely be the one to initiate and run the offense.
On the defensive end, he has the potential to be the defensive anchor the Bulls have been looking for. With LaVine being one of the worst defenders in the league, Ball will be able to take on the tougher assignment on defense while LaVine coasts by and focuses on carrying the offense.
Along with this, he is still a very young player who still has a lot of potential to develop even further. It was rumored that Ball would be making his way to Chicago around the trade deadline, however, when a trade did not occur, many thought that the ship had sailed.
Nevertheless, Chicago made it happen and they got a talented young point guard for their efforts.
The addition of Ball was great, however, his contract is a little high for what he has proven already. If he continues to grow as a player, the Bulls will be getting great value on this contract, but for the time being, they are taking a little bit of a risk.
