1. Move on from Jeff Teague.

Jeff Teague was part of the Atlanta Hawks’ most successful times in the last 15 years. He was the point guard for the 60 win team back in the 2014-15 season which contained the likes of Al Horford, Kent Bazemore, Kyle Korver, Paul Millsap and Dennis Schroder.

This was the only season that Teague was an All-Star. While he has had seasons with similar levels of production, he has not had the same effect on games. His first tenure with the Hawks ended in 2015-16 when he was traded to the Indiana Pacers with one year left on his deal.

Teague then signed a three year deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves where he was still putting up reasonable numbers. The Timberwolves moved on from Teague when they traded him back to the Hawks this season.

This is now what the Hawks need to do with Teague. His production and court time are at the lowest they have been since his second season. They have dipped to just 7.3 points, 4.0 assists and 2.2 rebounds per game in his last 25 games.

The Hawks are putting all their eggs in the Trae Young/Kevin Huerter back-court combination. While both their careers are in their infancy, there is a chemistry developing between the two which will help propel the Hawks forward.

Then there is the matter of Teague’s salary. He was the team’s highest-paid player last season, collecting $19 million for the season. This money could be better used to sign a talent coming off their rookie deal who fits the Hawks timeline.
