The Atlanta Hawks have a solid young core that will move them up the standings in years to come. Here are five roster moves they need to make.

The Atlanta Hawks have not been competitive for a number of seasons now. They have hitched their wagon on the offensive dynamo Trae Young and are trying to build a team around him to start making their way back to the top of the standings.

This year’s roster only contained three players over the age of 30. Dewayne Dedmon is 31, Jeff Teague is 32 and Vince Carter finished his tremendous career at the age of 43. Thanks to the advent of COVID-19, we were unable to farewell Carter in the manner in which he deserved.

The Hawks finished with the fourth-worst record in the league going 20-47 for the season. They had a roster turnover midseason where they picked up Clint Capela who did not play a game for the Hawks.

They also added Jeff Teague, Skal Labissiere, Treveon Graham and Dewayne Dedmon via trade amongst others, who were then waived. They managed to move on Allen Crabbe, Alex Len and Jabari Parker.

The Hawks own two picks in the upcoming 2020 NBA draft. The most important one is the sixth pick, the second one is the 50th pick. However, it is unlikely they will move the needle with this pick.

The Hawks have an incredible amount of cap space next season with only $59 million taken up in current salaries. They have managed to get this by having only two contracts over $10 million. Their core are mostly recent draft picks on their rookie contracts.

As they only have seven guaranteed contracts, they have plenty of work to do. Here are five roster moves they need to make.
