3. Interior defense

Interior defense is a problem that has been plaguing the Cleveland Cavaliers for a few seasons now.

Last year, the Cavaliers were one of the worst defensive teams in league history. Cleveland broke modern-day records for their awful defensive rating and became the first team this century to finish the season with under 200 total blocks.

Cleveland has improved slightly on this end of the floor, but this isn’t saying much. It would have been nearly impossible to be worse than they were last year.

The Cavaliers still rank dead last in blocks per game, but are on pace to surpass last season’s total. John Henson currently leads the team in this category with 1.2 blocks per game. Thompson is the only other player to block more than one shot per game.

It goes without saying that this is a major area of concern for Cleveland. Finding a suitable rim protector must happen sooner rather than later.

Perhaps defensive-oriented big man James Wiseman could be the Cavs’ solution. Wiseman blocked nine shots in just three games played for Memphis and is expected to be a top pick in this year’s upcoming NBA Draft.
