4. BWA: Bench With Attitude

On Media Day, the Celtics found themselves another slogan/nickname. Marcus Morris said that the Celtics’ second unit will be called “Bench With Attitude,” or “BWA” for short.

A bench with attitude is a perfect nickname for Boston when you consider the fact that Marcus Smart, Morris and Rozier will be coming off of it. Those three alone make up enough attitude that surpasses some NBA rosters.

Last season, the Celtics had one of the worst benches in the league. They were only able to score 34.6 points per game, ranking 18th in the NBA. With a team that has championship aspirations, ranking in the bottom half of the league is a little bit of a concern.

However, a large part of this was due to the fact that so many players were injured. Having all the starters healthy will allow the bench to come back to full strength. Players like Rozier, Aron Baynes and a few others were mixed in the starting lineup.

This forced a lot of G League and end-of-the-bench players to fill out the second unit. It wasn’t ideal and that was pretty obvious when looking at their team ranking. Getting this new swagger to the second unit will be great for Boston.

This will allow them to feel more confident and play with attitude when filling in for the starters. Hopefully this new nickname will give the team an extra spark. Fans are loving it as well, as it’s already become a marketing tool for sales.
