5. Utilize the NBA Draft correctly

The 2018 NBA Draft is just around the corner and with the 15th pick, the Washington Wizards have an opportunity to add depth and youth in the backcourt or frontcourt. Depending on what player the Wizards select, they’ll add a nice rotational piece.

Recently, I projected five possible selections Washington could make. Whether they select Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Robert Williams or Lonnie Walker IV, their selection will be all about best fit.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Wizards to acquire a guard in this year’s draft with a focus on versatility. If any player fits that model, it’s Gilgeous-Alexander. He’s got the size at 6’6″ with a 7’0″ wingspan that has versatile combo guard written all over it.

He’ll need to add strength to his frame, but he went from relative unknown to a leader for the Kentucky Wildcats as a freshman in 2017-18.

The Wizards will need to use this process wisely with Bradley Beal and John Wall in the backcourt. Wall was very vocal toward the end of the season about a need for improvement.

The 15th pick could go either way for Washington, so it will be interesting to see how the dominoes fall on June 21. The Wizards haven’t had a draft pick in the first round since 2015. Now, they’re faced with an opportunity to get younger and add talent in a deep draft class.
