Washington Wizards: 5 goals for John Wall in 2017-18

5. Do not force the outside shot
John Wall is about as talented as they come and arguably one of the best players to come out of the 2010 NBA Draft. He’s also the only one still with his original signing team. However, his outside shot is one of the few tools he has yet to refine in his career thus far.

For his career, he currently sits at 32.1 percent shooting from beyond the arc, reaching as low as 7.1 percent on 42 attempts during the 2011-12 season. His highest mark in this area was 35.1 percent, which he shot for twice in his career (2013-14 and 2015-16).
With Otto Porter Jr., Bradley Beal and Markieff Morris all being more reliable from deep, Wall should look to pass and avoid forcing the issue at times. It may be possible this plan is more or less in the works anyhow, since his average distance of field goal attempts was the lowest it’s been in four seasons at 11.9 feet. He has established himself and looks comfortable as one of the fastest and most physical guards when driving to the hoop.
Should John Wall look to improve his outside shot, he should look to pass first, pull up second — and only on open looks, since he is the least reliable shooter from the outside in the starting lineup other than Marcin Gortat.
