New York Knicks: 5 Goals for Damyean Dotson’s rookie year
By Randy Porga
No.5 Becoming a three point threat
Firstly, it is easy to point out that Damyean Dotson is one of the best three-point shooters to emerge from the 2017 NBA Draft.
Over four years at Oregon University, Dotson slowly improved his three-point shot each year. As a freshman, he finished with a 32.9 three-point percentage, and ended his senior year shooting 44.1 percent from beyond the arc.

Overall through his four years he drained 38.0 percent of his long-range attempts.
With the Knicks having at the very least a decent defensive unit coming off the bench, Dotson may prove to be the most capable three-point threat.
Last year one of their best options off the bench was Justin Holiday, who the Knicks passed on re-signing during free agency. Damyean Dotson may prove more than capable to fill that very role for the Knicks.
While the New York Knicks just recently filled their 15-man roster signing Michael Beasley, it’s likely Dotson will see some minutes in the rotation.
The Knicks may need to count their lucky stars with Dotson’s efficient shooting, and not wonder for too long how he was not selected earlier in the draft. As a senior, he shot 48.3 percent on his spot-up jumpers. He is a team player and works hard to make himself available, with sound shot mechanics he has a quick rise and release making it difficult for defenders to contest.
There is no telling how many opportunities he may see early on, but the Knicks should see a solid production from Damyean Dotson even if it is only 5-10 minutes per game.
