Luc Mbah a Moute, SF

It’s been eerily quiet for Luc Mbah a Moute on the free agency front. After he declined his 2017-18 player option with the Los Angeles Clippers, we haven’t heard a peep about any potential suitors on the open market.

Sooner rather than later, he’s going to find a home. Instead of picking up his life and moving halfway across the country, though, he could opt to stay put in Los Angeles. Obviously I’m talking about him signing with the Lakers.

More from Los Angeles Lakers

I’ve mentioned Mbah a Moute as an option for the Lakers in the past, and I’ll keep doing it until he’s no longer on the market. He makes a ton of sense for this roster, both from a talent and experience standpoint. My only concern would be his willingness to sign a one-year deal, which seems to be a prerequisite for joining the Lakers this offseason.

First, Mbah a Moute is an exceptional defender on the wing who also brings some solid scoring potential. Although the majority of the minutes at small forward will go to Brandon Ingram in 2017-18, Los Angeles could use a reliable weapon off the bench. It’s not like Luol Deng is capable of filling that role, and he may not even be around past the 2018 trade deadline.

Second, he’d give this roster a solid veteran presence. This young, rebuilding roster is missing an established option outside of Brook Lopez. Mbah a Moute would give them a tough, talented wing who can help lift up this young group of playmakers.

Assuming the money and years are right, I could absolutely see Mbah a Moute landing with the Lakers.
