Oklahoma City Thunder SG Victor Oladipo

Restricted Free Agent

I really think the whole relationship between Victor Oladipo and the Oklahoma City Thunder could go one of two ways. Either he clicks with Russell Westbrook and jumps at the chance to re-sign, or spends the entire 2016-17 season awaiting the start of free agency.

Obviously being a restricted free agent won’t help his potential escape, but Oklahoma City might have a difficult time matching any deals with so much money tied up in Westbrook. That could open a door for the Spurs to swoop in and make a deal happen.

Now where would Oladipo fit into the picture? Well, for one, Manu Ginobili is nearing the end of his illustrious NBA career. He pondered retirement this offseason, and could easily do the same in 2017. If he were to hang them up, that would leave San Antonio with Danny Green.

While Green is a starting-caliber shooting guard, he’s often injured and nowhere near the all-around player Oladipo is. Especially if he can shine in Oklahoma City this year, Oladipo could easily find himself vying for a starting job on one of the best rosters in the NBA.

It’s a longshot, but you have to believe the Spurs would kick the tires on Oladipo if he’s available.
