5 Big-Name Free Agents The San Antonio Spurs Could Target In 2017

Up to this point, Rudy Gobert has made it clear that he plans on re-signing with the Jazz (via the Salt Lake Union Tribute). As we’ve seen in the past, though, preseason promises mean little by season’s end.

Utah has until Oct. 31 to get a deal done with the Stifle Tower. If that doesn’t happen, he’ll enter restricted free agency next year and will have plenty of potential suitors. Assuming that’s the case, you have to believe Gobert will at least entertain any offers that come his way.
It’s not like playing for the Jazz is going to earn him a ring anytime soon. Joining the Spurs, however, would allow him to play for a legitimate contender.
As I mentioned, the Spurs need to find some youth at center. Gasol is a good short-term solution, but adding a player like Gobert to the mix would give the position a much brighter future. Obviously, it would also give San Antonio one of the best interior defenders in the NBA.

Signing him wouldn’t be easy from a financial standpoint. However, if the Spurs are set on remaining contenders, getting him under contract would be wise if the pieces fell into place.
