Portland Trail Blazers: 5 Reasons Re-Signing Allen Crabbe Was A Good Move
By Vijay Vemu
4. Tradeable contract
Although Crabbe is slated to make $18.5 million for the next four years (and more if you include incentives), his contract could be a good one in the future for the Portland Trail Blazers.
The salary cap is expected to jump up to around an estimated $102 million as per reports by numerous outlets including ESPN. It was around $107 million but the estimation has dropped. With this new salary cap, expect another jump in salaries for any free agent on the market. Players like Stephen Curry, Russell Westbrook and Blake Griffin lead a free agency class that will make more money than this year’s group.
Due to this jump in salaries once again, deals signed in prior free agencies will look like great contracts. Players like Jimmy Butler, who would certainly earn a max contract in free agency, is already locked up and is slated to make significantly less money than some of the guys he is compared to.
The same could be said about Crabbe, although it is to a much lesser extent than Butler. If Crabbe doesn’t play up to his contract, it would be very easy for Portland to pull the trigger on a deal for him. With the type of money he is going to make, it won’t be as much when the salary cap jumps again.
