Redrafting The 1st Round Of The 2014 NBA Draft
22. Memphis Grizzlies: K.J. McDaniels, Clemson
Original selection: 32nd by the Philadelphia 76ers
2015-16 statistics: 1.5 PPG 0.8 RPG 0.1 APG 7.70 PER
K.J. McDaniels has always believed in himself. After being drafted, he and his agent were not happy about the Sixers’ offer, so McDaniels decided to gamble on himself by signing a one-year deal in hopes to impress other teams around the league and be signed that offseason. That’s exactly what happened.
McDaniels had a very impressive start to his rookie season coming off the bench averaging 9.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 25.4 minutes per game. In February last season, McDaniels was on the radar of a few teams as the trade deadline loomed closer. The Rockets traded Isaiah Canaan and a second-round pick in exchange for McDaniels.
His playing time was cut significantly, but he was able to earn a three-year, $10 million deal with the Rockets in the offseason.
McDaniels is another player that prides himself on the defensive end of the floor, which would fit well in the Grizzlies philosophy and roster structure.
