3. Kosta Koufos, Sacramento Kings

2015 contract: Four years, $33 million

2015-16 statistics: 7.3 PPG, 6.1 RPG, 1.0 BPG, 20.8 MPG

Throughout his seven-year career in the NBA, Koufos has been a starter for one full season when he played for the Denver Nuggets in 2012-13. Other than that season, he has always been a decent option at backup center.

Despite being a seasoned player in the league, this particular contract was way above Koufos’ worth. He was coming off a season with the Grizzlies when he averaged 5.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game — not exactly numbers that assure a contract that is worth $7-8 million dollars against the cap for the next four guaranteed seasons.

Glancing at Koufos’ numbers per game, they aren’t terrible, but with a RPM of -1.30 (69th among NBA centers), his impact on the court isn’t worth the money he is getting paid.

Koufos is another player on this list backing up the franchise player–in this case DeMarcus Cousins— so his production isn’t as vital as other positions. The Kings as a team continue to exceed expectations with an 18-23 record and have moved into the final playoff slot in the West.
