2. Tyson Chandler, Phoenix Suns

2015 contract: Four years, $52 million

2015-16 statistics: 5.3 PPG, 7.4 RPG, 0.6 BPG, 22.1 MPG

Chandler is a proven NBA veteran who won an NBA championship with the Dallas Mavericks in 2011. Bringing a player with his experience to join the young and talented core of Brandon Knight and Eric Bledsoe would ideally be a recipe for a playoff-caliber team in the Western Conference.

Another positive of signing Chandler was to help lure highly-coveted free agent LaMarcus Aldridge to Phoenix. During the team’s meeting with Aldridge, Chandler was in attendance to express his hunger to win another championship, but their plan would fail as Aldridge ended up signing with San Antonio.

In the beginning of the season, Chandler seemed to be a great fit not only for the starting position, but also mentoring Alex Len. The season progressed and Chandler’s production continued to drop before he suffered a hamstring injury that would keep him sidelined for eight-straight games.

Chandler’s contract is turning out to be one of the worst that occurred last summer. No team is willing to take on a 33-year-old defensive stopper that has struggled with injuries for $52 million, and who can blame them?

The Suns are stuck with Chandler for the foreseeable future as they try and land a top draft pick in this year’s draft. In the past 10 games, Phoenix is 1-9 and are in 13th place with a 13-30 overall record in the Western Conference.
