Pipe Dream Trade Target: Trae Young

Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young is expected not to be traded at this year's deadline, but with the Hawks appearing to hit the reset button, it makes sense for them to consider moving him too.

While it would surely take at least four first-round picks for a team to pry the All-Star guard away from Atlanta, there are a few teams that potentially could, namely the San Antonio Spurs.

The Spurs are in need of a starting point guard and trading for Young would definitely help. He would be a major upgrade given his elite scoring and play-making ability and his potential fit next to new franchise cornerstone Victor Wembanyama. Ironically, the reason the Hawks have decided to retool but not rebuild is because the Spurs own three of their future first-round picks, preventing the Hawks from a traditional teardown and rebuild.

Then again, if the Hawks were willing to trade Young to the Spurs, then they could receive some of those picks back, allowing them to move forward and potentially find their next superstar. That's a big if, however, and the Hawks may instead try to retool around Young rather than trade him in-season.
