Team USA's quest for the gold medal has officially begun and they have assembled an extremely talented roster that features some of the best players in the NBA. Their assembling for a goal greater than themselves is similar to that of the Avengers, the superhero super group from Marvel comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

In fact, there are quite a few parallels with Hall of Famer Grant Hill, who is the managing director of the USA Basketball Men's National Team, in charge of picking players. That is similar to Nick Fury, who was the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and assembled the Avengers.

There are others, however, and we will go through and compare each member of the Men's National Team to a member of the Avengers or a member of the MCU, starting with Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards.

Anthony Edwards-Ant-Man

Although Anthony Edwards doesn't have much in common with the MCU's Ant-Man, his nickname is "Ant," so that is close enough. Seriously, though. Ant-Man, despite being the comedic relief in the MCU, has actually played, dare I say, a "giant" role in the movies.

Edwards apparently sees himself as the centerpiece of the Team USA roster and time will tell if that turns out to be the case but it's possible that, like Ant-Man, he'll turn into Giant-Man.
