Knicks Resolution: Build off of their OG Anunoby-RJ Barrett trade.

New York needs… to build off of their OG Anunoby-RJ Barrett trade by adding another scorer. Last night, the Knicks New Year’s need would have been to get RJ Barrett set up with a new shooting coach. After shooting an abysmal 31.0% from three-point range last season, the improvement is still not there in 2023-2024, as he is shooting just 33.1% from beyond the arc currently.

Taking out his lone sophomore season where Barrett found a consistent shooting stroke, he has made just 32.6% of his career three-pointers. He does do a lot of other valuable things on the court, which is why Toronto was interested in him, but it is very tough to pay guards in the NBA $25+ million a year when they are below-average shooters.

Luckily, the Knicks no longer need to worry about RJ Barrett and have upgraded his spot in the lineup slightly to OG Anunoby, who is slightly bigger, better defensively, and a much more consistent three-point shooter (37.5% in his career). What they do need to worry about is replacing Immanuel Quickley, who was included in the deal. Quickley averaged 15.0 PPG this season for New York and is one of the better 6th men in the entire league.

Some good options that come to mind to replace Quickley are Jordan Clarkson from the Utah Jazz or Alec Burks from the Detroit Pistons who is probably begging to be moved and has spent time with New York from 2020-2022.
