Now's the perfect time for the Warriors to sell high on Steph Curry

It's time.

After making no moves this offseason, the Golden State Warriors could be forced to move on from star Steph Curry sooner rather than later. Curry is eligible for a contract extension this summer, but given the Warriors' lack of offseason moves, he may not be content to simply re-sign.

If that's the case, then that could force the Warriors to trade him, and they should strongly consider doing so. After all, if he doesn't sign an extension this offseason, then he could become a free agent next summer.

That would mean that they could theoretically lose their best player in franchise history for nothing. Even if they were to keep him, they aren't a ready-made contender.

I'd argue that they have the forth-worst team in the Western Conference, only behind the Sacramento Kings and New Orleans Pelicans.

The Golden State Warriors must trade Stephen Curry before it's too late

That's an awful place to be, though it could help them land a high lottery pick given the NBA's new lottery rules. Even then, they don't project to be a contender in the next two to three years, and that is a massive problem.

If they can't conceivably win a championship in the next two to three years, then they should move Curry. Not only would it be good for him, it would give him a fresh start on a better team. It could allow the Warriors to properly rebuild.

As far as a potential trade package, they should theoretically be able to get more than the Phoenix Suns got for Kevin Durant. To refresh everyone's memories, the Suns acquired Dillon Brooks, a starter, and Jalen Green, a former high lottery pick.

They also acquired the 10th pick in the 2025 NBA draft for 5 second-round picks. That means that the Warriors should be looking for at least two starters, a recent lottery selection, and multiple picks in return for Curry.

The Warriors should sell high on Steph Curry while they still can

Considering that he's 37 years old, that would be a reasonable offer. Of course, not many contenders can offer anything like that, so the Warriors would have to be flexible and take the best deal available. One such offer could come from the San Antonio Spurs.

They could offer De'Aaron Fox, Carter Bryant, and three firsts for Curry. Fox, despite being on a highly questionable contract, is still a two-time All-Star in his prime.

Meanwhile, Bryant is a recent lottery pick who projects to be an above-average 3-and-D wing, plus multiple first-round picks. The Rockets and the Boston Celtics could also get in on a Curry sweepstakes, as could the Charlotte Hornets.

The more teams that have interest in Curry, the better for the Warriors, if and when they decide to move on from him.
