Although the Golden State Warriors haven't done much this offseason, star Steph Curry may soon make a big decision regarding his future with the team. Curry is eligible for a contract extension on August 29th, and depending on whether he takes it or not, it could inform how the Warriors operate next season.
If he signs an extension, then Golden State may not make a big move between now and the trade deadline. Given their lackluster offseason, that could result in them being one of the worst teams in the Western Conference.
Of course, if Curry doesn't sign an extension, then it could keep pressure on Golden State to improve the roster before the trade deadline. Otherwise, Curry could enter free agency next summer and be free to leave the Bay Area.

Rival teams will no doubt be keeping a close eye on Curry on the 29th and the days following. If Curry decides against signing an extension, then it could open the doors for a potential trade.
Curry may not demand a trade, but his failing to agree to an extension could be an indication that he no longer has faith in the front office. Who can blame him? Golden State was supposed to be ahead of every other team when it came to roster building.
Obviously, that's not the case. They made a series of puzzling mistakes, including drafting James Wiseman over LaMelo Ball and whiffing on Jonathan Kuminga.
They also doubled down on their biggest issue by failing to get younger this offseason.

They will enter next season with a staggering four rotation players who are at least 35 years old. Yes, Curry is included in that bunch, and he is still playing at a superstar level. However, it's clear that they are wasting his time by not building the best possible team around him.
If the season started tomorrow, they would likely be the third or fourth best team in the Western Conference. They probably wouldn't have a prayer of making the play-in tournament, let alone the NBA Playoffs outright.
Yes, they tried and failed to land a star this summer by pursuing Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James. They struck out, leaving them with a questionable roster that doesn't seem up to Curry's standard.
As a result, August 29th may tell us a lot about how he feels about the Warriors. He may not make a decision immediately. If he signs an extension soon after he is eligible, then he is probably fine with the team's direction. If he doesn't, then he could very well end up being traded between now and next year's trade deadline.
