2022 NBA Free Agency: The Golden State Warriors should sign Eric Bledsoe

The Golden State Warriors are reportedly looking to add more talent to their roster before the 2022–23 season begins. The Athletics’ Shams Charania and Anthony Slater (subscription required) said the Warriors have hosted several free agents for workouts recently, including veteran point guard Elfrid Payton.

Given that they are not incredibly deep at the position, Golden State’s interest in bringing in another floor general makes sense as they prepare to defend their title in 2022–23. When it comes to available free agent point guards, Eric Bledsoe might be the best one available, and the Warriors should inquire about bringing him aboard.

The addition of Bledsoe would give the Warriors an experienced ball-handler behind Steph Curry. While Golden State has both Jordan Poole and Donte DiVincenzo as reserve guards, neither might be categorized as a traditional point guard like Bledsoe. Speaking of DiVincenzo, he and Bledsoe, who were teammates with the Milwaukee Bucks, could be a strong defensive duo off the bench for Golden State.

With the Warriors losing two defensive aces from last season’s championship run in Otto Porter Jr. and Gary Payton II, adding another stout defender like Bledsoe alongside DiVincenzo could help forge an underrated one-two punch defensively in the second unit. On a minimum deal, the Warriors would be wise to ponder the possibility of utilizing one of their vacant roster spots on a savvy veteran like Eric Bledsoe.

The guard checks off several boxes for the Warriors, and he could possibly find a new life in Golden State if given the opportunity.
