2022 NBA Free Agency: The Charlotte Hornets should sign Eric Bledsoe

The Charlotte Hornets are reportedly doing their due diligence around the league to find a suitable backup point guard behind LaMelo Ball. According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania (subscription required), the Hornets have looked at both Kemba Walker and Isaiah Thomas as potential options to bring in to bolster their point guard depth before next season. Charlotte would be wise to add a reserve guard in the coming weeks, and Eric Bledsoe could be a perfect fit for the franchise.

As mentioned previously, Bledsoe is a strong defender at the guard position, which Charlotte could certainly utilize next season. The Hornets ranked 22nd in defensive rating last season as they had their share of struggles on that side of the ball. While adding Bledsoe would not make the Hornets a juggernaut on that end, he could certainly help them improve.

The veteran could alleviate some of the defensive pressure off of LaMelo Ball and Terry Rozier, which would be significant. Although Walker and Thomas are intriguing options for the Hornets, Bledsoe’s reputable defensive presence could make him the most obvious target of the veteran trio.

Many may question whether or not Bledsoe and Rozier could coexist, given their previous history from a few years ago. Perhaps the pair could put aside their differences for the betterment of the team as the Hornets look to take the next step in 2022-23.
