NBA Trades: Teams that should explore D’Angelo Russell trade – Washington Wizards

The Washington Wizards have a pivotal offseason coming up as they attempt to convince their franchise star, Bradley Beal, to stay put. Beal has pledged his loyalty to the franchise time and time again, and the Wizards will look to surround him with the perfect complementary pieces as they look to get back into contention next season.

Washington swung a trade-deadline deal to get Kristaps Porzingis, and although he could be a solid running mate for Beal, the front office should look to add more talent this offseason. Making a trade for D’Angelo Russell could help.

Adding Russell alongside Beal and Porzingis would form a lethal offensive trio in Washington, and the Wizards could be enticed by the idea. It seems like teams across the league are winning with star-studded trios these days, and this group would fit that description.

Beal would get to play with a pair of former All-Stars that have plenty left in the tank, which could bode well for his chances of staying with the organization amidst the recent rumors.

With Raul Neto set to hit free agency and Ish Smith’s deal being non-guaranteed for next season, the Wizards need to add a point guard this offseason. Trading for Russell would be a pricey way to solve that problem, but the Wizards have the assets in tow to get a deal done.

As highlighted by our own Jack Simone, Washington could put together a package that includes Rui Hachimura, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Corey Kispert, and Vernon Carey Jr. to acquire Russell. There are some questions as to whether Minnesota would accept such a proposal, but the Wizards could at least make an offer for the former All-Star guard.
