5 dream targets for New York Knicks in 2022 NBA free agency: Ricky Rubio

Before he went down with an ACL injury, Ricky Rubio was playing some of the best basketball of his career with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Due to his injury, and the fact that the Cavaliers are in a place to make a serious playoff push this season, Rubio was dealt at the trade deadline to the Indiana Pacers in exchange for Caris LeVert.

A lot of rumors are stating that Rubio has a ton of interest in re-joining the Cavs this offseason, but if that doesn’t end up happening, the New York Knicks should jump at the opportunity to add him to the squad.

Before he went down, Rubio was averaging 13.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 6.6 assists while shooting 36.3 percent from the field and 33.9 percent from deep.

While his shooting percentages might not jump off the page, he would provide the Knicks with something they haven’t had in a long, long time – a true point guard.

For years, the narrative has been about how the Knicks need a real point guard to run the offense, and while Rubio may not be a star, he can run an offense at a very high level.

Bringing in Rubio to mentor players like RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, and even Miles McBride would be a great idea for New York to look into this offseason.
