NBA Trades: 3 landing spots for Nets forward Paul Millsap – 2. Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls were reportedly a finalist to sign Millsap during the offseason. Maybe the timing is right to correct that mistake for both sides.

Chicago has been extremely short at the power forward position all season. The team was hoping Patrick Williams would finally live up to his billing this season, but he’s missed virtually the entire year with an injury.

As a result, Billy Donovan has been throwing darts at the power forward board and seeing what sticks. Javonte Green has played minutes there. So has Derrick Jones Jr. Even Alex Caruso has given it a shot. Millsap can’t play starter minutes, but he can still soak up some playing time while competing at his natural position.

That being said, there’s a fairly natural argument against it for the Bulls right now. Is this the biggest need for a team ravaged by injuries at the guard position? Particularly when they were able to reach the top of the Eastern Conference without their primary power forward?

This is a team without Caruso and Lonzo Ball for the long-term, as well as Zach LaVine on a day-to-day basis. It might make more sense to pursue a guard, though Ayo Dosunmo is rising to the occasion.

Nevertheless, Millsap could be a low-cost option for the Bulls, especially if Donovan wants to rejigger things in light of the injuries. He can battle inside and pop out to hit jump shots from the mid-range, bringing a different element to this team.

A second-round draft pick might be enough to get the Bulls some much-needed reinforcements.
