NBA Power Rankings: NBA Christmas games – 3. Atlanta Hawks vs. New York Knicks

From a pure basketball perspective, this isn’t a tremendous matchup. The Knicks have failed to find their magic from last year, and the Hawks have struggled on the defensive end and on the injury report.

From an entertainment perspective, this is one of, if not the most anticipated game of the year. It’s the Hawks’ first game in Madison Square Garden since the two teams had a very fun, and very physical duel in the playoffs.

Trae Young was at the center of attention, turning in a spectacular showing while being hit with expletives (and spit) from overeager fans. Hopefully, no saliva goes his way on Christmas Day, but the chants and jeers will certainly be flowing.

Will he deliver an encore and once again tear up the Knicks or will the ruckus New York crowd help power their team to a much-needed victory? For that storyline alone, this game is a must-watch.

NBA Christmas Day history: The Hawks are breaking a long drought of years without a Christmas Day matchup. It’s their first game since 1989. The Knicks, on the other hand, are a staple of holiday basketball and own 22 wins on Christmas, the second-most behind the Lakers.
