The Philadelphia 76ers have been holding on to Ben Simmons for the past few months while they wait for the right trade. The longer they hold on to him, the more it feels as though that trade may never come.

GM Daryl Morey has stated that the team wants an All-Star caliber player in return for Simmons. They want to continue to compete for a championship, so young players/picks won’t really get the job done.

Recent NBA Rumors revealed that the 76ers and Pistons had ongoing discussions of a Jerami Grant for Ben Simmons trade. However, new NBA rumors make that out to be false.

NBA Rumors: Philadelphia 76ers want Cade Cunningham in a Ben Simmons trade

According to Kyle Neubeck of Philly Voice, Philadelphia isn’t actually interested in a trade for Grant. Instead, the only player they would want from Detroit is first-overall pick Cade Cunningham.

In the Detroit example, sources say there’s not much of a discussion to be had unless the Pistons unexpectedly decided to throw Cade Cunningham, this year’s No. 1 overall pick, into the mix. Even then, the timeline Cunningham is on relative to Joel Embiid would make that a tough proposition for Philly to say yes to.

Neubeck explained that the 76ers don’t like Grant’s fit with the team, among other things. Sources said that there would be too much positional overlap with forward Tobias Harris.

The Sixers also don’t feel as though Grant’s contract would be very flippable down the line. If they feel like trading him at any point, they may not get enough value in return.

That being said, the idea of Detroit offering Cunningham in a trade seems preposterous. The rookie is just starting to come into his own, and them dealing him in a Ben Simmons trade is highly unlikely.

The young point forward was taken with the first overall pick this past year for a reason. Why trade him for a disgruntled All-Star who seemingly has an attitude problem?

The Philadelphia 76ers can say no to a Jerami Grant trade, but there’s almost a zero percent chance they get Cade Cunningham. The Detroit Pistons would not take that deal.
