Crazy stats from the first two Pistons games: 2. Worst in shooting, near worst in turnovers

Across the board, these Pistons are struggling to put the ball anywhere close to the basket. They’re shooting 39.3 percent from the floor, 19.6 percent from 3-point range, and they take the second-fewest 3-pointers in the NBA at 28.0 per game. Incidentally, the fewest 3s have been taken by the Bulls at 25.7 per game.

Barely any better, the Pistons have turned the ball over 20.0 times per game, a grand total of 40 through two games. They’re tied with the Denver Nuggets for this mark, and only the Houston Rockets and New Orleans Pelicans are worse at 20.3 each.

Crazy stats from the first two Pistons games: 1. 95.5 defensive rating

It’s not all bad! This team has also played some lockdown defense against a Chicago Bulls squad that should end up being pretty potent on the offensive end. Detroit has posted a 95.5 defensive rating, good for seventh-best in the NBA.

The Bulls have already made one bad defensive squad pay dearly, dropping 128 points on the New Orleans Pelicans in their non-Piston game. Being able to hold the Bulls to 94 and 97 points respectively is a mark in favor of this team’s ability to D up. The next step is to turn those stops on the defensive end into points on the offensive end, but we’ll see if they’re actually capable of such a thing soon enough.
