Miami Heat offseason signing No. 4: Victor Oladipo

At his best Victor Oladipo is an All-Star leaping over defenders, finishing at the rim with authority. He can also shoot the long ball at a reasonable rate, being a 34.7 percent shooter from beyond the long line. He can also facilitate the offense as a very capable passer.

On the defensive end, he is one of the best perimeter defenders in the entire league. His long arms and lateral movement allow him to cover a large amount of the court, creating deflections and steals which leads to transition offense.

The problem is that injuries have ruined the last couple of years for Oladipo. He has only played 88 games in the past three seasons, including four for the Heat after he was traded from the Rockets at the deadline. It is unfortunate when players lose out on prime playing time due to their bodies letting them down.

The Heat have signed him to a single-season, veterans minimum deal which gives him the chance to prove that he can still be a force in the league. If he stays healthy then this signing looks like the work of a genius. If his body lets him down then it does not hurt the Heat’s flexibility.
