Los Angeles Lakers: Predicting statistical leaders in all major categories
By Duncan Smith
Los Angeles Lakers statistical leaders – 3-point percentage: Wayne Ellington
Predicted percentage: 39.0
The Lakers aren’t a tremendous shooting team, even after their offseason transactions. Their best 3-point shooter going into next season probably rates to be Wayne Ellington, who is coming off a 42.2 percent shooting season from long range with the Detroit Pistons. He’ll benefit from playing alongside Russell Westbrook and LeBron James in Los Angeles.
Los Angeles Lakers statistical leaders – 2-point percentage: LeBron James
Predicted percentage: 58.5
LeBron James keeps getting older, but he hasn’t stopped being an unstoppable force in the paint. He’s coming off the fifth-best 2-point shooting season of his 18-year career, shooting 59.1 percent inside the arc. It wouldn’t be a surprise if he starts to decline somewhat, but we’re not going to be the ones to count LeBron out and predict it.
Los Angeles Lakers statistical leaders – Free-throw percentage: Anthony Davis
Predicted percentage: 80.0
The Lakers aren’t much of a free-throw shooting team, in spite of how often they’re going to go to the charity stripe next season. They don’t really have an elite knock-down shooter from the line, but Anthony Davis is a 79.9 percent free-throw shooter and that’s probably going to get the job done on this team. He’s actually coming off a down season from the line, shooting just 73.8 percent, so he’s due for a bounce-back.
