Pistons: 1 goal for each player going into the 2021-22 season
By Duncan Smith
Goals for each Detroit Pistons starter
Jerami Grant – Stay healthy
A healthy Jerami Grant was a dangerous Jerami Grant last season for the Pistons. The heavy workload he carried as the season wore on took its toll, and his production suffered as a result. Being able to share the load with Cade Cunningham should do wonders.
Kelly Olynyk – Prove last season wasn’t a fluke
Kelly Olynyk lit the world on fire when he went to the Houston Rockets at the trade deadline, but the Rockets were a bad team. Did Olynyk parlay a good-stats-bad-team performance into a payday with the Pistons, or was he just that good? He’ll have to prove that in Detroit.
Cade Cunningham – Be the difference-maker
Cade Cunningham isn’t just a highly-touted rookie, he’s the future in Detroit. He’ll need to step up from day one and justify that expectation. It’s a lot of pressure on a rookie, but he seems like he’s up for the challenge.
Killian Hayes – Fix that shot
Killian Hayes has some of the components of a really good NBA player, but it’ll never happen if he can’t shoot the ball. Whether he masters the catch-and-shoot 3-pointer or his stepback ever becomes a viable source of offense, this is something he’s going to have to figure out if he wants to be a positive contributor in the NBA.
Saddiq Bey – Take the next step as a playmaker
Saddiq Bey is very good at one thing with the ball in his hands: Shooting. Doing more than that has been a challenge, though, especially when it comes to passing. He’s a bit on the myopic side, often missing mismatches that could be exploited via his passes. He doesn’t need to be the next coming of Steve Nash, but just removing the blinders with the ball in his hands would go a long way.
