Pistons: 1 goal for each player going into the 2021-22 season
By Duncan Smith
The Detroit Pistons are coming off of one of the worst two-year stretches in franchise history with a combined record of 40-92 since the beginning of 2019-20.
It’s been a rough ride for a team that fancied itself a playoff contender as recently as two seasons ago, even if this past season actually did go the way it was planned. Losing is no fun, and the Pistons are hoping to jump back into relevance next season, if not outright high-level competitiveness.
The Detroit Pistons hope to bounce back to relevance after a 20-win season. We’ll pick a goal for each player that should help speed the process along.
The Pistons have a roster they like more than what they brought into last season. They were lucky enough to get the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA draft, which they used on Cade Cunningham, and suddenly the team was head and shoulders ahead of last season by default.
To solve their roster crunch, they traded Sekou Doumbouya and Jahlil Okafor to the Brooklyn Nets last week, completing their total roster turnover from when general manager Troy Weaver took over a season ago.
Winning in the NBA isn’t easy, so every piece of the puzzle for this team will have to step up and do its part. To outline how this can be done, we’ll break down a single goal for each player on the team, beginning with the expected starters and going through the bench core and the fringe of the rotation.
