Prediction No. 2: Mitchell Robinson is a Trade Deadline Day victim

One name that has been conveniently left off this article so far is Mitchell Robinson. During his first two seasons in the league, Robinson was one of the very few–if not the only–positive remark for Knicks fans and had a permanent spot in their hearts.

Last season was a rather unfortunate one for Robinson, as he suffered injury after injury, leading to him playing just over 30 games and missing any kind of postseason action.

Knicks fans are not Robinson stans anymore, seeing almost every player in their beloved team perform above expectations. And if that wasn’t enough, it now seems like the organization feels the same way.

Locking up both Gibson and Noel to multi-year deals definitely goes to show you that Thibodeau and co. are definitely okay with the thought of proceeding forward without Robinson’s services. The pair proved to be great defensive anchors last season, which led to these aforementioned contracts.

Robinson will most definitely be given the chance to convince the front office otherwise, whether that is as a starter or off the bench. The fact that Frank Ntilikina and Kevin Knox lasted so long just goes to show you that the guys up top like to trust their youths.

If things don’t work out as expected, trading away Mitchell Robinson should and will be New York’s top priority. He is set to enter free agency in 2022 and the Knicks would like to avoid having to pay him a hefty prize, only to end up injured for the majority of his deal.

Robinson is a quality NBA player and can start in a few teams across the league. Most teams would be lucky to have him, like the Cleveland Cavaliers for example, who apparently can never have too many young centers.
