Prediction No. 3: The Knicks have no clear first-scoring option

If you were to take a look at the 2020-21 statistics for the New York Knicks, you could never miss the obvious eye-catching one-dimensional scoring the team had. To sum up, it was Julius Randle, and then the rest.

This year, though, things are bound to be different. It’s not that Randle will get worse or that he himself would be a one-season wonder. It’s perfectly normal for your numbers to be inflated when the team lacks other scoring options, *cough Jerami Grant cough*.

The arrivals of Fournier and Walker, as well as the linear progression of RJ Barrett, are bound to force Randle’s numbers to take a dip. Is that a bad thing? Absolutely not.

It is far more likely that we see the quartet of Randle-Barrett-Walker-Fournier average 20 points per game or so a piece than seeing one player run away with the prize like Randle did last year in outstanding fashion.

Tom Thibodeau’s presence led to a revolutionary shift in the team’s defense last year, though the offense was always lacking behind. Hopefully now with a better understanding of everyone’s strengths and weaknesses, he can take this team to the next level.
