Editor’s Note: This piece is updated as of the 2022-23 NBA season.

For generations, the player who has remained with one franchise for the duration of their career has been romanticized as if it is something the greatest players of all time always do. While this was true for Bill Russell, he is one of the few top 10 players of all time to do so.

Michael Jordan, LeBron James and Kareem Adbul-Jabbar all donned more than one jersey. Other than Jordan, all of the other additional stops resulted in championships.

Most of the players on this list are not quite so lucky.

The most fun part of a list like this is that there are so many answers. Plenty of players get a chance early in their career before moving on to greatness somewhere else (like Khris Middleton going from second-round Detroit Pistons project to All-NBA Milwaukee Bucks champion). Other players hang around so long in the league that they end up hanging various jerseys in their closest (Andre Iguodala with the Denver Nuggets, Memphis Grizzlies and Miami Heat comes to mind).

Let’s enjoy the ride through history.
