Utah Jazz offseason move No. 2: Re-sign Georges Niang

After starting his career with the Indiana Pacers, Georges Niang has developed into a solid role player with the Utah Jazz over the past four seasons. Niang has increased averages in scoring, rebounding, and assists each year that he has been in the league.

Last season he averaged 6.9 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 0.8 assists in 16.0 minutes per game which are certainly not earth-shattering, but it is not Niang’s responsibility to take the game over. His job is to spell the starters and keep the game moving.

One area where Niang has certainly developed is from beyond the arc. He took 5.6 shot attempts from the field last season, Of these, he took 4.1 from beyond the arc, and made them at 43.5 percent. He is a tremendous floor spacer which allows either Mitchell or Clarkson to go to work.

Niang should re-sign for a minimum deal which will certainly suit the Jazz. They need to find these role-players as cheaply as possible. They have the starters to match it with anyone and just need more depth. As the NBA is going back to a full 82 game season, this is going to be a key for the Jazz to progress deeper into the playoffs.
