LA Clippers offseason move No. 2: Re-sign DeMarcus Cousins

Once a star of the league, DeMarcus Cousins has never been the same player since he tore his Achilles while playing for the New Orleans Pelicans. He signed with the Golden State Warriors in 2018, then with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020.

Last season he signed with the Houston Rockets and played there for three months prior to being waived at the end of February. A month and a half later the Clippers signed Cousins to a 10-day contract, then a second 10-day contract. Finally, they signed him for the rest of the season.

Cousins averaged 7.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 0.8 steals in just 12.9 minutes per game. He was incredibly efficient in his time with the Clippers, going at 53.7 percent from the floor, 42.1 percent from behind the arc, and 68.2 percent from the line.

If the Clippers were able to sign Cousins to a veteran’s minimum then they would have a true second option in the middle to back up for Ivica Zubac. Cousins would likely agree to this deal as the Clippers provide him with the best opportunity to win a championship. After everything that he has gone through, this would be a reward for all his pain and suffering during his rehabilitation.
