Denver Nuggets offseason move No. 1: Re-sign Austin Rivers

Rivers was incredibly well-traveled last season. He was traded from the Houston Rockets to the New York Knicks prior to the season starting. He would play 21 games with the Knicks, averaging 7.3 points, 2.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 0.6 steals in 21.0 minutes per game.

He was then traded to the OKC Thunder as part of the George Hill trade before being waived. This is when the Nuggets signed him to a 10-day contract. He performed well enough that the Nuggets signed him to a contract for the rest of the season after this.

Rivers averaged 8.7 points, 2.6 assists, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.2 steals in 26.9 minutes per game for the Nuggets this season. He even started five of the 15 games that he played. His shooting was solid and he provided some valuable spark for the team, especially off the bench where he scored 25 points to help the Nuggets beat the Knicks near the end of the season.

If the Nuggets can sign Rivers for about $3.0 million, this puts them close to the luxury tax apron. They have the season to either move players to get under it or wear the cost, if the team is performing well, especially after Murray returns.
