Denver Nuggets offseason move No. 2: Re-sign JaMychal Green

When the news broke that JaMychal Green had declined his option and was becoming a free agent, there would have been a few excited general managers around the league.  Green is looking to sign a longer-term deal, but unfortunately for the rest of the NBA, he wants to re-sign with the Nuggets.

That is not to say that he will not field offers from other clubs, but Green seems really at home with the Nuggets. He played in 58 games, averaging 8.1 points and 4.8 rebounds in 19.3 minutes. He even knocked down his 3-point shots at a 39.9 percent clip.

However, with Green, it is not all about the numbers. While they are nice, he is on the team to provide hard-nosed defense, set good picks, and generally bring the physicality to the floor. It is this way that Green brings out the best in his teammates.

While the Nuggets are sailing pretty close to the cap, taking Green’s $7.5 million away, they have only $119.3 million in committed salary. While they still need to re-sign some players, if they offer Green a lower contract over a longer period, even back-ending the deal slightly, they can try and re-sign the rest of the team for another go-around next season.
