Charlotte Hornets offseason roster move No. 2: Re-sign Devonte Graham

To put it simply Devonte Graham was one of the finds of the NBA a couple of seasons ago. His play was so good that he managed to sideline the Hornets’ highest-paid player at the time, Batum. In fact, his game, combined with Terry Rozier’s made the Hornets change direction and helped them land Hayward.

Graham has been on a minimum salary since exploding onto the scene back in the 2019-20 season. During his three-year, $4.0 million contract, Graham has averaged 13.3 points, 5.4 assists, 2.6 assists, and 0.9 steals in 27.7 minutes per game. He has started 100 of his 164 career games.

Now that the Hornets are starting to trend in the right direction, they are going to become a team where they can attract some reasonable free agents. However, Graham has shown that he can perform on the same team with Hayward and Ball which is going to be crucial for the Hornets’ success.

He did have a period during the season where he did struggle but his offense is so strong that even during this period, teams could not leave him alone. For the Hornets to try and make the postseason in 2021-22, the play of Graham is going to have a huge impact.
