Chicago Bulls offseason roster move No. 3: Move on from Cristiano Felicio

The Chicago Bulls made a mistake when they signed Cristiano Felicio to a four-year $32 million dollar deal back in the 2017 offseason. The Bulls had just completed a playoff run, but to pay Felicio an average of $8 million per season was not a good move.

To put it into context, Felicio had averaged 4.8 points and 4.7 rebounds per game in the previous season. There is taking a chance with the potential of a player, but this is something else entirely. This is not how to secure the future of the franchise.

The next season was Felicio’s best when it came to scoring, averaging 5.6 points per game. He was never able to get back to his rebounding numbers of the 2016-17 season. Last season he averaged 1.3 points and 1.4 rebounds per game. He only got 4.7 minutes per game in the 18 he played.

These numbers do not even justify a veteran’s minimum deal for next season. The Bulls need to fill this roster spot with a player who is going to help them move forward. Cristiano Felicio does not fit this criterion and the Bulls should not give him another deal.
