Minnesota Timberwolves offseason roster move No. 1: Guarantee Naz Reid

Second-year big man, Naz Reid saw a lot more court time than he would have been expecting this season. He played 70 games, starting 15 of them. He averaged 11.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.1 blocks, 1.0 assists, and 0.5 steals per game. However, where Reid surprised was with his efficiency from the floor.

More from Minnesota Timberwolves

In averaging 11.2 points, Reid only took 8.2 shot attempts from the floor, making a solid 52.3 percent of his attempts. He took 2.5 of his shot attempts from beyond the 3-point line, making 35.1 percent of them. This is tremendous floor-spacing ability from your backup big man.

If the Timberwolves guarantee Reid, then they are only going to cost themselves $1.8 million This is going to be crucial for the coming season where the Timberwolves have $131 million on their books. This is too much for a team that was not even near making the postseason.

What Reid does offer the Timberwolves is a level of flexibility. With his ability to stretch the floor and play the opposition bigs, Reid can start alongside Towns. He can also be the reserve center when the Timberwolves rest Towns. This then means that the Timberwolves have the pivot position covered and can focus on other areas on the floor that they can improve.
