Why the Chicago Bulls should trade for Kemba Walker: Veteran mentor for Coby White

Last season, second-year point guard Coby White was in the starting lineup for most of the year. However, when head coach Billy Donovan wanted to shake things up, he brought White in off the bench to help spearhead the 2nd unit. With Walker on the roster, White could quickly become a Sixth Man of the Year candidate.

While White’s ego may take an initial hit if Walker is brought into the fold, he may grow to love the increased scoring opportunities he gets from coming off the bench. As a starter, his primary offensive responsibility would be playmaking. The top two scoring options for the Bulls must be LaVine and Vučević if they are going to be successful. Getting them the ball in their sweet spots will serve the team best.

However, if White were to come off the bench, he could look for his shot more often. He’s proven he can heat up from distance and swing the momentum of the game in his team’s favor. If he’s a member of the 2nd unit, he’ll be encouraged to be more aggressive.

When White does need advice about how to run a team, Kemba Walker would be a great go-to guy. As a guy who once dished out 16 assists in a single game, Walker knows a thing or two about getting other guys involved. His knowledge of the game would be priceless in aiding Coby White’s development as a point guard.
