Detroit Pistons offseason roster move No. 2: Re-sign Hamidou Diallo

The Pistons made the move during the season to trade Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk and a 2027 second-round draft pick to the OKC Thunder in exchange for Hamidou Diallo. This was not a contract dump as both Mykhailuk and Diallo are in the final years of their deals.

The Pistons seem to be going for a particular identity. Diallo does not have the greatest range on his shot, he is a 29.4 percent career shooter from deep. However, during his time as a member of the Pistons, Diallo shot the ball at 39.0 percent from deep.

What he does excel at is using his nuclear athleticism to attack the rim. He has developed in every season that he has been in the league and averaged 11.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 23.3 minutes with the Pistons.

He is also a very talented defender, often being used as the primary defender on the second unit for both the OKC Thunder and now the Pistons. Due to the fact that his style is different from what the rest of the league is interested in, Diallo has never really commanded a large salary.

The Pistons would be keen to re-sign Diallo as he has played successfully with Jerami Grant when they were both members of the Thunder squad. Their ability to work together may help the Pistons rebuild at a more rapid rate.
