Boston Celtics offseason roster moves No. 2: Find a new head coach

The Celtics have a history of keeping head coaches for extended periods of time. Prior to appointing Stevens, the Celtics had Doc Rivers at the helm for nine seasons. It certainly helps that the Celtics won a championship under his leadership.

The Celtics then hired Stevens at the start of the 2013-14 season and as a team, they finished with a 25-57 record. Stevens then never lost less than 40 games in a full 82 game season. He would not have a losing record again for the last six years of his eight-year tenure.

Stevens only missed the playoffs in his first season as head coach. He made the Eastern Conference finals in three seasons and made the conference semi-finals once. He was also named Eastern Conference coach of the month three times during his tenure. This is a fairly tough resume to follow.

There are a number of high-caliber coaches around who could fit the bill for the Celtics. Fortunately, they have a whole offseason to vet their next head coach. They do not need to rush into this decision as Stevens will be able to take care of the draft and free agency if he is required to do so.
